Am I allowed to have a grill at my apartment building?

Cooking fires are a leading cause of fire in the United States. The national fire prevention code (NFPA 1) prohibits the use and storage of grills above the first floor in multifamily dwellings such as apartment and condominium complexes. Grills may be used so long as they are stored at ground level and pulled at least ten feet from the building before they are ignited. Some apartment complexes have chosen to prohibit grills entirely as part of their lease agreement.
