City of Florence Names New Chief of Police Jeff Mallery

The Florence Police Department is ready to embark on a new era with Mayor Julie M. Aubuchon announcing the appointment of Jeff Mallery as its new Chief of Police, replacing Chief Tom Grau who is retiring May 1, 2024.

In her announcement, Mayor Aubuchon expressed satisfaction in the abundance of strong internal candidates for the position, underscoring the depth of talent within the Florence Police Department. "As we close one chapter, a new chapter for the history of the Florence Police Department begins," stated Mayor Aubuchon. "I am pleased that there were such strong internal candidates for the position of police chief. I am happy to announce that I have promoted Jeff Mallery as our next Chief of Police."

Jeff Mallery is a 21-year veteran of the Florence Police Department and has served as a Lieutenant with the department since 2018. Jeff Mallery graduated from Northern Kentucky University and has furthered his expertise by completing coursework in Police Supervision and Executive Development under the Department of Criminal Justice. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Administrative Officers Course offered by the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville. Having ascended through the ranks, Jeff Mallery has served in various capacities including patrolman, Corporal, Sergeant, and Lieutenant. His tenure includes pivotal roles within the Criminal Investigation Unit, leadership in the Field Training Program, and serving as the Accreditation Manager, overseeing the department's accreditation process.

Jeff Mallery's deep roots in Florence as a native of the city further solidify his connection and commitment to the community. Speaking of his appointment, Jeff Mallery expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as Chief of Police in my hometown of Florence. I am committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and community engagement." He has served his entire career as a member of the Florence Police Department. Jeff is married to Dawn and they have three children.

Chief Mallery will assume his duties as Chief of Police starting Monday, April 1, 2024. His appointment signals a continuation of the department's legacy of service and excellence, as the Florence Police Department remains steadfast in its mission to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.
