Golf returns to the City of Florence -- with conditions
09/26/2020
Golfers, dust off those irons because golf returns to the City of Florence on May 1, with the reopening of World Golf. Take note; however, golf will look a little different for the foreseeable future, and not all amenities at World of Golf will be available.
Over the last few weeks, World of Golf management has prepared for the day where they will be able to serve customers, with new public health guidelines in place. These steps will allow the golf course and outdoor driving range to reopen.
World of Golf will follow the “Park and Play” guidelines developed by the National Golf Course Owners Association. These public health and safety measures align with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s social distancing and sanitation practices. Golfers will have the confidence that they will be able to drive to World of Golf, park their cars, get to and around the course, and back to the parking lot in as safe an environment as possible.
“Park and Play” safety policies include:
- Paying in advance over the phone or website with a credit card, or book online, show up to a pre-positioned sanitized cart, and proceed to the first tee without personal contact.
- Permitting only one person per cart
- No touching of the flagstick
- Practicing proper social distancing
- Removing all non-essential golf items form the course (ball washers, bunker rakes, and water coolers)
Ralph Landrum, President and Head Golf Professional for Landrum Golf Management, which operates World of Golf for the City of Florence, said, “Implementing ‘Park and Play’ will ensure the health and safety of the staff and golfers. This will allow us to open back up and enjoy what we love to do.”
Unfortunately, not all amenities will be able to open. Miniature golf, the golf simulator, the indoor range, and Divots Grill will remain closed; private and group lessons will not be available.
“With the federal and state governments announcing phase-in benchmarks for restarting the economy, we are hopeful these gradual and incremental steps will get us back to at least some sort of normality,” Florence Mayor Diane Whalen said. Whalen continued, “We’re still facing a very serious virus, and we have to remain vigilant in adhering to the guidance from the public health experts. We encourage all residents and visitors to do the same.”
