Public Works Academy

The City of Florence Public Services Department has announced the Public Works Academy, a comprehensive 7-week program, scheduled from June 10, 2024, to July 26, 2024, for motivated and talented individuals. This comprehensive program will offer participants a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and valuable skills across various facets of public works.

Throughout the program, participants will engage in practical training sessions covering essential areas such as OSHA 10 Certification, CPR/AED Certification, concrete forming/finishing training, water sampling, installation of storm sewer piping, framing/installation of a pergola at a city park, installation of landscape beds, painting, detailing, performing preventative maintenance work on emergency response vehicles, and touring the water and sanitary sewer treatment plants.

The academy also offers resume building and mock interviews with the Public Services Director and OPS Superintendent, ensuring participants are well-prepared for potential career opportunities within the public works or related fields.

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their resume and completed application by May 10, 2024, to be considered for the Public Works Academy. Applications can be initiated by scanning the provided QR code - Public Works Academy 2024.

Selected participants will be compensated at an hourly rate of $15.00 per hour and must possess a valid driver’s license, commit to working Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and be willing to perform manual labor while adhering to safety precautions.
